4 killed in clashes over mosque in India, Jamaat protests

Four Muslim citizens were killed in a clash over a survey conducted at a Mughal-era Jama Masjid in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. At least 30 others were injured in the incident. The clash took place in the state’s Sambal district on Sunday (November 24) morning.

Indian media said that there is a dispute over the location of the mosque. Due to that dispute, the matter has reached the court. One party claims that there was a temple at the location where the mosque is located earlier. That is, they claim that this mosque was built on the site of a Hindu temple. Later, the court ordered a survey to confirm the matter. When the survey was conducted, a clash occurred at one point.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami also strongly condemned Sunday’s incident. In a statement on Monday (November 25), the party’s Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar said that Hindus claim that a Mughal-era Jama Masjid in Sambal, Uttar Pradesh, India, was previously a temple. Muslims obstructed the survey, and later, 4 worshippers were killed and many worshippers were injured in police firing. I strongly condemn and protest this incident.

He said, ‘Since coming to power, the ruling BJP government has been conspiring in various ways to destroy the mosques and madrasas of Muslims. As part of that conspiracy, it has started a conspiracy and conspiracy to destroy the mosques by falsely claiming that there was a temple in the place of the mosque. By trying to destroy the mosques of Muslims, the BJP government has violated the religious and human rights of Muslims recognized by the United Nations. Muslims all over the world are concerned about such heinous and unjust actions of the Indian government.’

Ghulam Parwar said, ‘I urge the BJP government to stop the conspiracy to destroy the mosques of Muslims. At the same time, I urge the Bangladesh government to protest the Indian government’s interference in the religious and human rights of Muslims in India.’
