A chase and counter-chase between law enforcement and battery-powered autorickshaw drivers took place in Jurain in the capital. The incident took place around noon on Friday (November 22). The situation in Jurain and the surrounding areas is tense.

Around noon, battery-powered autorickshaw drivers blocked roads and railway tracks in Jurain. In addition to the traffic jam, Narayanganj commuters were stranded at Jurain railway station. On the other hand, the Khulna-bound Nakshikantha commuter train was stranded at Kamalapur’s suburban station due to the blockade.

Later, when police and law enforcement members tried to remove them, a chase and counter-chase between the two sides took place. Witnesses said that the police later fired several rounds of tear gas to control the situation. At one stage, the blockaders retreated from the road and traffic normalized. However, train traffic has not started yet. The situation in the entire area has been tense since noon due to the incident.

Confirming the suspension of train services, Kamalapur Station Master Anwar Hossain said that the Narayanganj commuter train was stuck at Jurain Railway Station around 12:15 pm due to the blockade. For the same reason, the Khulna-bound Nakshikantha commuter train is stuck at the Kamalapur Suburban Station. This has disrupted rail communication from Dhaka to Narayanganj via the Padma Bridge, as well as rail services from Dhaka to Narayanganj.
