The statue was destroyed at the Germana area’s main square on Saturday, December 7, approximately ten kilometres from the heart of Damascus, the country’s capital.

Reuters covered this news regarding an eyewitness and several other rights campaigners. Druze primarily populate the settlement of Germany. Anti-President Assad protesters overturned the statue as rebels marched toward Damascus on Saturday following their conquest of Homs.

Images and videos of Hafez al-Assad’s busts were released by the mainstream media. On social media, it becomes viral as well.

The Syrian military was commanded by Hafez al-Assad. After seizing power in 1971, he controlled Syria for 29 years in a row until his passing in 2000.

Following his death, his son Bashar al-Assad assumed authority and left the nation on Sunday, December 8, when rebels grabbed control of Damascus. For around 54 years, this ended the tyranny of father and son.
