Case filed against 31 people for the murder of lawyer Alif in Chittagong
A case has been filed against 31 people in Chittagong for the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif. The deceased’s father Jamal Uddin filed the case with the Kotwali Police Station on Friday (November 29) night.
The accused in the case are Chandan, Aman Das, Shri Shuvo Kanti Das, Bunja, Ranab, Bidhan, Bikash, Ramit, Rumit Das, Nayan Das, Gagan Das, Vishal Das, Omkar Das, Vishal, Rajkapur, Lala, Sameer, Sohel, Shiv Kumar, Biglal, Parash, Shri Ganesh, Om Das, Poppy, Ajay, Devi Charan, Dev, Joy, Durlav Das and Rajiv Bhattacharya, all residents of the city’s Bandel Road Sevak Colony area.
In addition, Khane Alam, the elder brother of the murdered lawyer Alif, has filed another case against 4 to 500 unknown people, naming 115 people for attacking and vandalizing lawyers in the court premises.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of the City Police, Kazi Md. Tarek Aziz, confirmed the two cases and said that a case has been filed naming 31 people in the murder of Advocate Saiful Islam Alif. 10 to 15 unknown people have been accused in the case. In addition, Alif’s brother Khane Alam has filed another case against lawyers in the court premises for attacking and vandalizing lawyers.
Meanwhile, based on a 52-second video footage collected by the police in this incident, investigation-related officials said that Om Das, Chandan and Ranab beat lawyer Saiful Islam with sharp weapons. Even though Saiful’s lifeless body was lying on the road, others continued to beat him with sticks. Another 25 to 30 people were present at the scene. Ramit Das, Sumit Das, Gagan Das, Nayan Das, Vishal Das, Aman Das, Manu Methor and Rajiv Bhattacharya were arrested on Tuesday night on charges of involvement in the murder. Most of those arrested are cleaners and one is a law student at a private university.
Incidentally, the police’s Detective Branch (DB) arrested Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatani Jagran Jote spokesperson and ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari from Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on November 25. Later, on November 26, he was produced before a Chittagong court. The court rejected his bail and ordered him to be sent to jail.
On the way to the court, the followers of Chinmoy Krishna Das blocked the prison van carrying him. On the way to take Chinmoy Krishna to jail, a clash broke out between the law enforcement agencies and lawyers and the followers of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari. Young lawyer Saiful Islam Alif was killed in the incident.
