Oh, if only I hadn't died so Mugdho."
Recently, a claim has been spread on social media claiming that ‘no one named Mir Mughdah died’ or that ‘Mughdah and Snigdah are the same person’. However, the fact-checking Facebook page run by the press wing of the interim government’s chief advisor has said that this claim spread on social media is false.
A post on the page on Thursday (November 21) night said that when protesters in Azampur, Uttara, became thirsty on July 18, he rushed to bring them water and food. A video recorded 15 minutes before his death shows him distributing water bottles and biscuits to the protesters. He was shot while standing on the side of the road at the Azampur intersection in Uttara around 5 pm. The bullet pierced his forehead and exited through the right side of his head. When his body was taken to Uttara Crescent Hospital, the doctor on duty declared him dead.
The post also said that Mughdah’s martyrdom and the scenes before it were published in almost every media outlet in Bangladesh. A report published in the Daily Prthma Loy on July 29 said, ‘Mughd completed his graduation in mathematics from Khulna University in 2023. After returning to Dhaka, he was admitted to Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) in March. He was doing a professional MBA. He was also freelancing.’
The report further said, ‘Mughd died on the spot after being shot in a clash in Azampur, Uttara on July 18. That day, he was hanging his laminated BUP ID card around his neck. After being shot, blood entered the ID card. The blood has dried. Mugd’s family members have left the blood-stained card like that.’
Meanwhile, Mugd’s twin brother Snigdh expressed regret over the rumors of Mugd’s death in a Facebook status, saying, ‘Oh, if Mugdd really hadn’t died.’
