Poor countries will receive $300 billion to address climate challenges
Rich countries have pledged $300 billion to developing countries at the UN climate conference. This support will be provided to help prepare for and combat climate challenges.
The conference in Azerbaijan took an extra 33 hours to reach an agreement. In the end, after long negotiations, countries were able to agree on the issue.
The head of the UN Climate Agency, Simon Steele, said: “It was a difficult journey, but we got the deal.”
However, no agreement was reached at this year’s conference on the call for countries to move away from fossil fuels, which was made last year.
Developing countries, especially those at risk of climate change, walked out of the talks in a dramatic way on Saturday.
“I am not exaggerating that our islands are sinking. How do you expect us to go back to our women, men and children with a weak agreement?” said Cédric Suster, head of the Alliance of Small Island States.
