Demra’s Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Molla College (DMRC) Principal Obaidullah Nayan has claimed that the attack by students of several colleges including Kabi Nazrul Government College and Suhrawardy College in the capital has caused damage of around Tk 70 crore to his institution. He made this claim while briefing media personnel at the college campus on Monday (November 25) afternoon.

Stating that no glass of the 12-storey building was left intact in the attack by the students, Principal Nayan said that the institution’s 5 lifts, computers and science labs have been reduced to rubble. The attacking students looted various valuable and necessary items including cash, documents and certificates required by the students, more than 300 fans, about 30 laptops, and numerous computers.

Stating that we did not think that students could do such a thing, he said, “We have been destroyed.” The evil forces are working by capitalizing on the students. If this cannot be controlled, the country will go to the other side.

Regarding the role of law enforcement during the attack, he said, “During the attack, members of various law enforcement agencies including the police watched the situation from a distance. No action was taken against the attackers.”

Inspector in-charge of the police camp at DMCH Hospital Md. Faruk said that at least 35 people have been brought to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College from Jatrabari in an injured condition. Most of them are students with head and body injuries.
